On hearing the tragic and sudden death of Orde Wingate, then British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill said, “We placed our hopes at Quebec on the supreme commander Admiral Mountbatten and his brilliant lieutenant Major General Wingate who alas, has paid soldier’s debt.
